Home-number transfer and travel-plan transfer are separate checks
Your home carrier controls the number you use for everyday calls. Your travel eSIM provider controls the separate package bought for a trip. A successful home-number transfer does not confirm that the second provider will move an installed travel profile, preserve its remaining allowance or issue another installation code.
Apple's eSIM setup instructions describe Quick Transfer for supporting carriers. The published requirements include nearby iPhones signed into your Apple Account, Bluetooth enabled, unlocking the previous phone with its passcode and iOS 18.4 or later on both devices. An eligible transfer deactivates the previous SIM when the new one activates. Follow the current instructions shown for your carrier.
Treat these as two entries on your upgrade checklist: one for the home line and one for travel data. Check the provider for each line individually.

Ask these questions before changing phones
For a Trips eSIM order, contact Trips eSIM support with the order number, old and new phone models, and whether the plan is uninstalled, installed, activated or partly used. Ask:
- Can this specific order move to the new device?
- If so, what approved procedure should I follow?
- What happens to unused data and the expiry date?
- Does the procedure involve another code, a charge or an installation deadline?
- At what point is it appropriate to remove the old profile?
Do not include the QR code or activation secrets in a public post or ordinary support screenshot. The order number identifies the purchase without exposing installation credentials.
Why deleting the old eSIM is not a transfer method
Deleting a profile does not demonstrate that a new installation is authorized. Apple's eSIM removal guidance advises against deletion for troubleshooting unless the carrier directs it; after erasure, obtaining another eSIM requires contacting the carrier.
Trips eSIM's installation guide also warns that many profiles cannot be installed a second time. Keep the original profile while seeking instructions. A saved QR-code image is not proof that the code remains valid or is reusable on another phone.
Before installing any approved replacement, check the new handset itself. Under Settings > General > About, Apple's carrier-lock check uses the wording “No SIM restrictions” to identify an unlocked iPhone. Only the carrier can unlock a carrier-locked device. Example: upgrading shortly before a trip
Imagine you expect an iPhone 18 Pro before a seven-day Japan holiday. Your old phone already has a prepaid travel profile, with an allowance you have not used. This is an illustrative planning scenario, not a customer case study.
Start by confirming your new phone's delivery date, then ask the travel provider about the installed order. If the provider approves a move, follow its sequence and record the resulting allowance and expiry. If it does not, compare keeping the old phone for the trip with arranging a suitable separate plan for the new one.
If you have not bought travel data yet, choose the phone you will actually take before installing. Compare the itinerary through Trips eSIM destinations, then check the selected product's validity and activation rules. Leave time between setup and departure to resolve questions.
