Choose a Canada travel eSIM by matching its supported destinations, total data and validity to your itinerary. Confirm that your phone is unlocked and eSIM-compatible, then check activation and hotspot rules. For an onward US visit, select a package that explicitly lists both countries; Canada coverage alone does not establish US coverage.
Start with the route, including any border crossing
A Toronto and Montreal visit needs service in Canada. A Vancouver and Seattle itinerary also needs US service. Write down every country where you intend to use mobile data, including a stopover where you plan to leave the airport.
For a Canada-only trip, compare the Canada eSIM options on the allowance and conditions you need. A regional package can still suit that trip, but extra destinations are useful only if they justify the price and other terms. Their pages describe 5G / 4G LTE capability and no daily data limit or throttling; these are the listed plan conditions, not measured speeds or a guarantee of service at each stop.

Build a 14-day data budget
Consider an illustrative two-week trip using assumptions, not measured app consumption:
- Budget 0.5GB per day for navigation, messages, browsing and modest uploads.
- Multiply 14 days by 0.5GB: 7GB.
- Add a 1GB reserve: 8GB total.
For this specific budget, the 10GB / 30-day example fits the assumed data need and trip length, provided its activation timing, destinations and other terms suit the traveler. The 1GB example does not fit the 8GB target. The 20GB example adds data and validity that this calculation does not require.
Replace the assumptions if you expect video streaming, substantial uploads or laptop sharing. For example, adding an assumed 4GB of laptop use raises the target from 8GB to 12GB. Check setup timing before departure
Verify your exact device model and purchase region on the compatibility page. For iPhone, Apple's international eSIM guidance explains how to check the carrier lock under Settings → General → About; an unlocked phone shows “No SIM Restrictions.” Apple also notes that keeping the home line active can still incur roaming charges.
Follow the delivered instructions and installation timing guide. Because these examples activate on first data usage, avoid an unintended early connection. A package that also supports the US could begin its validity before Canada if first used during the US portion of your journey.
Prepare for gaps on a road trip
A country appearing in the coverage list does not mean every road or trail has reception. Parks Canada's Banff guidance specifically notes limited cellular coverage and advises checking coverage for the area you will visit.
